AMERICAN SCIENTIST FOR HIGH SCHOOLS
Sigma Xi is committed to providing pathways to solutions for global problems and fostering the public understanding of science. Providing free American Scientist magazines to high schools is our way of giving a source of credible STEM information to teachers and students.
Schools located in states where laws or proposals have challenged the integrity of science education are eligible for the program. Schools are nominated by a supporter of science education through a public nomination process. Most schools will start a year-long subscription (six issues) with the March–April issue. If your school is selected and is not able to use this resource, or to learn more about the program, please email memberinfo@sigmaxi.org.
ACTIVITY GUIDES
In addition to the magazines, the American Scientist for High Schools program features interactive, cross-curricular educational resources based on articles published in American Scientist magazine. These activity guides include lesson plans developed by teachers and are designed to meet the Next Generation of Science Standards (NGSS).
Sigma Xi extends a special thank you to the following educators who created the lesson plans and developed the first activity guides for the program:
- Juliana Berry, M.Ed., SCUC ISD
- Shaunna Garner, M.Ed., NEISD
- Diana Natividad, M.Ed., SAISD
- Mary Lou O’Donnell, M.Ed., Albert Einstein Fellow
Their hard work and dedication played a key role in the launch of Sigma Xi's American Scientist for High Schools program. New guides will be created and released throughout the year.
