Sigma Xi's Policy on Political Advocacy

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, is a tax-exempt organization by virtue of its complete commitment to its mission, the encouragement of original investigation in science, pure and applied. The Society as an organization will not use any of its resources to support positions which could reasonably be construed as primarily political, thus weakening its ability to fulfill its mission. The forums of Sigma Xi, such as its publication American Scientist, its Distinguished Lectureships, and its Annual Meeting, are available for the expression of a member's viewpoint on any scientific matter, subject only to the restrictions of time, space and quality of presentation, provided the member supports the position with data and methodology of a scientific field in which that member is recognized as an authority.
