Moses and Dorothy Passer Award
Established in 2025, the Moses and Dorothy Passer Award recognizes individuals for their contributions to promoting integrity in science.
Objective
The objective of this award is to promote individual and collective efforts to strengthen the integrity of scientific research. Nominations, including letters of recommendation, should be submitted by e-mail to awards@sigmaxi.org.
Award Amount
$1,000 honorarium and an invitation to speak at the Sigma Xi annual conference.
Eligibility
- Open to all individuals; Sigma Xi membership is not required but is preferred.
Nomination Materials
- Current curriculum vitae following Sigma Xi criteria.
- Letter of nomination addressing:
- Brief introduction of the nominee’s accomplishments in the promotion of scientific integrity leading to the nomination.
- Description of the impact of their contributions on the scientific community and public interests.
- 1-2 letters of support (no more than one page each).
Dr. Moses and Dorothy Passer
Dr. Moses Passer (1917-1999) was a distinguished chemist and educator, best known for his contributions to science education and his leadership within the American Chemical Society (ACS). He served as the ACS Director of Education and played a pivotal role in advancing chemistry education at various levels. Dr. Passer was dedicated to promoting integrity in science and fostering opportunities for future generations of scientists. His widow, Dorothy Passer, has endowed the Moses and Dorothy Passer Award.
