Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings Fellowship
The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings welcome a select number of students to attend the prestigious summer meetings in Lindau, Germany. As an academic partner, Sigma Xi is one of a few select organizations that can nominate students to attend as Sigma Xi Lindau Meeting Fellows.
Student members of the Society who fit specific criteria, may apply through a special pre-selection application. A selection committee of Sigma Xi members will nominate two exceptional applicants to attend the meeting. The final selection of applicants will be carried out by the organizers of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. Travel and meeting expenses of the selected applicants will be covered by Sigma Xi.
The 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting is scheduled to take place in Lindau, Germany from June 29 to July 4, 2025. The meeting will bring together approximately 40 Nobel Laureates in Chemistry and 600 highly-talented students and early-career postdoctoral scientists. Attendee applicants should be from the field of Chemistry or closely related disciplines. The students and early-career scientists will have the opportunity to share their research with laureates, attend lectures, and build connections with international experts.

Application Criteria:

Be an active Sigma Xi member for at least 1 year prior to applying for this honor

Show exceptional interest and engagement in science and research
-
Represent the top 5 percent of your class/show excellence in your principal field of study

Receive strong support via a letter of recommendation (two letters are allowed; one is required) in your application by your academic advisor and/or by an internationally renowned scientist who can validate the skills and abilities of the applicant as a scientist

Provide a detailed and comprehensive CV

Not have a permanent position or an independent group leader position (this is a criterion for exclusion, except in special cases.)

Not have participated in a previous Lindau Meeting

If selected by Sigma Xi, respond and meet the deadlines set by the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings for fully completed applications (incomplete applications will not be considered)

If selected by Sigma Xi, fully attend and participate at the meeting in Lindau, Germany
Please ensure the following requirements are reflected in your CV:

Undergraduate students who exhibit a solid general knowledge in the sciences

Master and doctoral students who show excellent academic accomplishments and have already produced excellent research work (e.g. documented by publications, conference presentations, and/or research awards/prizes)

Postdoctoral scientists, who:

Have up to 5 years of postdoctoral experience (optimally 2-3 years after the doctoral degree)

Have published excellent results, preferably of own scientific research in refereed journals and as first or last and/or corresponding author

Have presented their work at international scientific meetings, preferably as (invited) lecturers.
