RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society announces a partnership with One Tree Planted in celebration of Environmental Awareness Month in April 2022. The two non-profit organizations will team up to provide support for the environment through the planting of trees. Throughout the campaign, Sigma Xi will donate $1 to the global reforestation charity for every $25 donated to the Society. Each contribution will support scientific research and go toward the planting of one tree.
Since 2014, One Tree Planted has been dedicated to improving the environment by planting more than 40 million trees in over 43 countries across the globe. The trees are planted by local partner organizations and community volunteers in areas where there has been deforestation.
“Sigma Xi is pleased to partner with One Tree Planted to raise funds for scientific research and the environment,” said Jamie Vernon, Sigma Xi’s executive director and CEO. “Each tree planted represents an investment in the future of our planet and the next generation of scientists and engineers.”
The core values of the partnership are rooted in creating a healthier climate, protecting biodiversity, and making a positive social impact around the world. Trees play a key role in cleaning the air we breathe, reducing the risk of natural disasters, and providing healthy habitats for countless plants and animal species. Reforestation also has tremendous positive social impacts by providing jobs to over 1.6 billion people, empowering women in underdeveloped nations, and supporting communities devastated by environmental damage.
