Ashanti Johnson of Fort Valley State University delivered a lecture about creating an inclusive research environment at the 2019 Sigma Xi Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference.
Due to COVID-19’s disruptions to the global workforce and many schools, the Annual Meeting Program Committee has extended deadlines to submit professional abstracts for symposia sessions and student abstracts for oral presentations that will take place during Sigma Xi’s Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference.
Sigma Xi leadership is monitoring public health guidance related to COVID-19, and at this time expects that the meeting will take place as scheduled from November 5–8, 2020, in Alexandria, Virginia.
Professional Abstracts
The committee invites professional abstracts by April 6 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time for:
- symposia
- workshops
- panel discussions
- professional research presentations (poster or oral)
The meeting will feature the interdisciplinary theme, Hacking the Brain: The Intersection of Art and Neuroscience. The program will provide perspectives about how art and science together can advance scientific endeavors, and what neuroscience tells us about how we see, hear, or move.
We recognize the uncertainty the coronavirus outbreak has caused. Professional presenters may withdraw their accepted submission by July 14, 2020, by writing to meetings@sigmaxi.org.

Student Abstracts
High school, undergraduate, and graduate students may submit abstracts to give a poster or oral presentation about their research at the Student Research Conference. The deadline for students to submit an abstract for an oral presentation has been extended to May 1 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. The poster presentation abstract deadline remains October 1 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
