The theme of the 2020 Sigma Xi Meeting and Student Research Conference is Hacking the Brain: The Intersection of Art and Neuroscience. The meeting will explore how art can affect new knowledge and offer new avenues for sharing scientific research.
Use your creativity to contribute to the meeting theme by submitting a design for the inaugural Sigma Xi t-shirt design contest! All entries must be original creations that incorporates the meeting’s theme and is consistent with Sigma Xi’s core values, has never been published, and does not contain profanity, trademarks, logos, or copyrighted works of any other person or business.
The creator(s) of the winning design will receive a free registration to the 2020 Sigma Xi Meeting and Student Research Conference in Alexandria, VA November 5-8, 2020. In addition, the design will be on meeting t-shirts, in addition to being exhibited during the meeting.
Guidelines and Eligibility:
- Designs can be created by an individual or in groups of no more than three participants.
- The design must be created by high school, undergraduate, or graduate students.
- Only one entry per student/team. Entries must be submitted using the online form.
- Design submission should be saved to 300 dpi to produce a quality output. Acceptable files are high resolution JPG, JPEG, GIF, AI, PDF, PNG, and EPS files.
Selection Criteria
- A public vote will determine the winning design.
- If needed, a tie breaker vote will open for 24 hours.
Competition Timeline:
Deadline for submissions: February 29, 2020 at 11:59 pm PST
Public voting: March 4-March 11, 2020 at 5 pm PST
Announcement of winning design: March 14, 2020 (Pi Day) on Sigma Xi's Facebook Live

The undersigned designer of the attached T-shirt design (the “Work”) hereby transfers and assigns to Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, Inc. (“Sigma Xi”), the copyright to the design, effective upon notification of winning will remain property of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. The designer will retain the right to use all or part of his or her design in works of his or her own, such as portfolios, or personal collections. The undersigned designer may not sell or reproduce the design for any other purpose once submitted to the contest.
