Student Anticipated Expenses

A student participant at the Sigma Xi Student Research Conference should anticipate the following expenses:

1. Registration Rates: Before 11:59 p.m. on May 27, 2016: $160 for Sigma Xi Student Members or $180 for Non-member Students; After May 27: $200 for Sigma Xi Student Members or $225 for Non-member Students. A One-Day Pass is also available for events on November 12, which includes the Student Research Conference presentations and awards. The One-Day rate for members and non-members is $120 before May 27 and $150 after May 27. Applies to Presenting or Non-presenting students.
2. Airfare, ground transportation or other travel costs - varies.
3. Hotel accommodations at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta - Hotel Room Rate: $159.00 + tax for single/ double occupancy and $169.00 + tax for triple/quad occupancy. Room rates are subject to any applicable taxes that are in effect at the time of check-in. The group rate expires with the reservation deadline on October 10, 2016.
4. Sigma Xi is providing the following meals during the conference for each paid registrant: Friday Keynote Luncheon, Saturday Power-up Breakfast, Saturday Award Luncheon, Saturday evening banquet, and Sunday Farewell Breakfast. Other meals are at the expense of the participant.

Solutions to Managing Travel and Lodging Costs

1. Make travel reservations as early as possible to reduce airfare costs.
2. Seek travel money from your department or institution. Many institutions have offices of undergraduate research. Information found on the Sigma Xi website related to the Student Conference is helpful in supporting a case for institutional financial assistance.
3. Seek travel money from other sources, including local Sigma Xi Chapters.
