RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC—Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society announces plans to hold its 2023 International Forum on Research Excellence (IFoRE) November 10–12, 2023 in Long Beach, California. The three-day annual conference will welcome scientists, engineers, students, artists, and supporters of science worldwide to participate in discussions and demonstrations of excellence in the research enterprise. Attendees will be invited to present, connect, and collaborate on diverse ideas through symposia, panel discussions, workshops, individual presentations, student tutorial sessions, and networking events.
This marks the second year for the Society's new IFoRE conference, which replaced the previously held Annual Meeting & Student Research Conference with its 2022 debut in Alexandria, Virginia. The move to the west coast for 2023 will continue an initiative to reach more of the international research community in different parts of the country and across the globe.
The theme for IFoRE ’23 is Vision for Ethical Research. Interested presenters are invited to submit abstracts for sessions that address their vision on building the future, including modeling, verification, and evaluation. Using optical sciences in general and vision systems in particular, the scientific objectivity and ethics should be seen clearly by all stakeholders in a society, from citizens to researchers. An emphasis should be placed on the interdisciplinarity and humanism of the knowledge acquisition in the 21st century.
The development of IFoRE '23 is being led by Sigma Xi's Fiscal Year 2024 President, Dr. Marija Strojnik, Executive Director and CEO Dr. Jamie Vernon, and the IFoRE planning committee, including volunteer members and Sigma Xi staff.
Conference components will include Key Thought sessions; student and professional research showcases; award presentations; plenary and breakout sessions; a STEM art & film festival; and a college, graduate school, and jobs fair. Immediately preceding the start of IFoRE '23, Sigma Xi will host its Assembly of Delegates on November 9. The one-day business meeting will include chapter and constituency caucuses for delegates to discuss and act on governance items, as authorized by the Society's bylaws and constitution.
Abstract submissions and registration for IFoRE '23 will open in spring 2023. Interested attendees, presenters, sponsors, and exhibitors can direct questions to meetings@sigmaxi.org.
