RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NORTH CAROLINA—Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society announces the debut of a new online platform that will provide opportunities for members and volunteers to connect and engage in Society programs, mentorship opportunities, and chapter events. The new portal is being launched through a partnership with Galaxy Digital, an Ashville, NC-based software company that helps nonprofits track and manage volunteer opportunities and community impact.
The new portal can be accessed at sigmaxi.galaxydigital.com, where individuals can create free user accounts and gain easy access to opportunities at both the national and local level. Volunteers will be able to track their hours and receive prizes and awards for their service. Opportunities include mentoring, evaluating abstracts, and judging for programs like Sigma Xi’s Grants in Aid of Research and IFoRE student research presentations. Additionally, members will be able to find and showcase events for chapters and regional constituencies, including members-at-large. Interested individuals do not need to be Sigma Xi members to utilize the volunteer platform.
“Volunteers are essential to the success of many of the Society’s acclaimed programs,” said Sigma Xi Executive Director and CEO Jamie Vernon. “We’re thrilled to provide this new portal to our members, chapter leaders, and interested volunteers. In addition to providing a singular location where people can track upcoming events and program opportunities, it serves our ongoing mission to foster new generational growth in the research enterprise through mentoring and student-professional networking opportunities.”
Four of Sigma Xi's chapters — Swarthmore College, University of Calgary, Iowa State University, and University of Washington — will help pilot the features of the volunteer platform. All chapters, members, and interested volunteers will be able to access the platform and participate in opportunities at launch.
To get started on the platform, members and interested individuals should visit sigmaxi.galaxydigital.com.
