Candidates Sought for Sigma Xi Elections

Dear Members of Sigma Xi, 

The future leadership of Sigma Xi is in your hands. This is your opportunity to make an impact by participating in the process to select the leadership of the Society. Are you or your colleagues seeking leadership opportunities? We welcome and encourage your involvement in this nomination process. Please take a few minutes to think about who you know that you believe can provide the leadership and vision to help Sigma Xi thrive and fulfill its mission.  

We are seeking qualified candidates for the following positions.

President for a three-year term as follows:

President-Elect (July 1, 2020–June 30, 2021)
President (July 1, 2021–June 30, 2022)
Immediate Past President (July 1, 2022–June 30, 2023)

Board of Directors representing: 

  • Research and Doctoral Universities Constituency
  • Membership-at-Large Constituency 
  • Mid-Atlantic Region
  • Northeast Region 

These positions serve three years from July 1, 2020–June 30, 2023.

Associate Directors representing:

  • Area Groups, Industries, State, and Federal Laboratories Constituency
  • Comprehensive Colleges & Universities Constituency
  • Northwest Region
  • Southeast Region

These positions serve three years from July 1, 2020–June 30, 2023.

Representatives on the Committee on Nominations representing:

  • Baccalaureate Colleges Constituency
  • Canadian/International Constituency
  • North Central Region
  • Southwest Region 

These positions serve three years from November 2019–November 2022.

Voting for all positions will begin November 18, 2019, by electronic means, and the polls will remain open for 30 days. All active full members of the Society will be invited to cast their vote. I invite you to consider nominating someone or self-nominating for the positions. Only active, full members of Sigma Xi are eligible for office.

Nomination Requirements

Nomination packages should be submitted as PDF or Word documents to elections@sigmaxi.org.

A complete nomination package includes a current CV, a candidate statement, a picture, and a biography. The candidate statement should include the vision and philosophy of the candidate, a description of relevant experience, and previous experience with Sigma Xi programs. Some of the issues addressed in the candidate statement might include:

  • The most important scientific issues that face the world and the scientific community
  • Engaging and retaining young members and motivating them to be active in Sigma Xi
  • Encouraging diversity in the scientific community
  • Improving the scientific literacy of the general public
  • Any other issues within the scope of Sigma Xi that you are particularly passionate about
