RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. ― With two months left before thousands of people participate in the March for Science movement on April 22, organizers have shared a list of partners and information to help people get involved.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society is recognized as the first major scientific partner of the march. The Society has been supporting organizers by providing guidance on the march.

“Sigma Xi’s involvement in the March for Science is part of the Society’s duty to uphold the importance of research in a nonpartisan way, to promote the integrity and ethics of people who conduct science, and to share their work for the benefit of all people,” said Sigma Xi Executive Director and CEO John Nemeth.

Organizers are also working with Sigma Xi to connect its 500 chapters of scientists and engineers—located at colleges and universities, government laboratories, and industry research centers—with nearly 300 satellite marches around the globe.

The public is encouraged to contact a Sigma Xi chapter near them at www.sigmaxi.org/chapters to connect with researchers in their area. Chapters can connect with a local satellite march on the March for Science website. Some Sigma Xi members and chapters will take buses to the march in Washington, DC. Others will participate in local marches.

Sigma Xi is offering to serve as a fiscal sponsor for satellite marches that are organized by Sigma Xi members and chapters. This involves managing donations taken in by organizers. So far, marches in San Francisco and San Diego have Sigma Xi members on their organizer teams.

Leading up to the marches, researchers are encouraged to share stories of how they serve their communities on social media with #ScienceServes. This campaign is intended to showcase how science saves lives, protects communities, and advances the public interest.

The march is one of many ways that Sigma Xi has promoted science and scientific integrity over the last 130 years. The March for Science and Sigma Xi align in that both are apolitical organizations that promote science communication to the public and the use of evidenced-based information in policy making.
