American Scientist Wins Three Excel Awards

Excel Gold Award WinnerResearch Triangle Park, N.C. — Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society and its magazine, American Scientist, have received more recognition as a leader in publishing excellence. The Society won three awards for American Scientist  at Association Media & Publishing's 36th Annual EXCEL Awards Gala on June 27 in Washington, D.C. 

Sigma Xi and American Scientist  received a 2016 EXCEL Gold Award for Design Excellence in Journals, a Bronze Award for General Editor-in-Chief Jamie Vernon Holding AwardsExcellence in Journals, and a Bronze Award for Cover Design in Journals. 

"I am so proud of Sigma Xi's magazine and the service it provides to a vast array of researchers and people who love science the world over. That pride resides principally in the incredible productivity of the American Scientist  staff,” said John Nemeth, executive director and CEO of Sigma Xi.

The awards are given in bronze, silver, and gold tiers. They recognize excellence and leadership in nonprofit association media, publishing, marketing, and communications. 

In all, Association Media & Publishing presented 226 awards in categories ranging from magazines to electronic books: 53 Gold Awards, 77 Silver Awards, and 96 Bronze Awards. A complete list of winners is available online. 

The EXCEL Awards have recognized American Scientist  for a number of years. Last year, the magazine won two Silver Awards.

July-August2016 American Scientist CoverSigma Xi has published American Scientist  since 1913. It contains articles about science, engineering, and technology written by researchers. It also contains a book review section. Members of the Society receive their choice of a print or digital subscription. The magazine is also sold at Barnes & Noble and on newsstands.
