Last December, I met with the leadership of several national science organizations that share the mission of Sigma Xi to enhance the health of the research enterprise, foster integrity in science and engineering and promote the public's understanding of science. We explored ways to build sustainable partnerships through joint participation in programs and resource sharing. One of those meetings was with Mike Lauer, the NIH's deputy director for extramural research.
One outcome of my meeting with Mike was developing a model for sharing mutually beneficial information on what the two organizations are doing for science and scientists. To kick off this partnership, we are pleased to share the NIH Extramural Nexus with our ~100,000 members and 500+ chapters. The Nexus is a monthly newsletter that provides updates on NIH policies, grant applications, resources, programs, and seminars. In addition, it’s the home of Mike Lauer’s blog, Open Mike, where he discusses issues and topics relevant to the NIH grants community and where readers provide input on such issues. You can now read the most recent NIH news by visiting the Sigma Xi Research Partnerships web page. We also encourage you to subscribe for real time updates.
This is just the beginning. Moving forward and as we build and strengthen partnerships with like-minded organizations, we will continue to bring to the Sigma Xi community news and information to help you stay current on issues that are critical to scientific research.
Sincerely,
John C. Nemeth, PhD
Executive Director and CEO
