Statement
As a both scientist and citizen, I was motivated by one question "what is the biological foundation of sociality". Human beings are one of the most social animals on earth. As society gets bigger, social problems get more complicated. As a scientist, I am deeply involved in studying the biological foundation of social behaviour. I study the genetic aspects of social behaviour using genetically traceable model system, Drosophila melanogaster, the fruit fly. As a citizen, I had been deeply involved with many intellectuals to study the relationship between science and society. I am a professional writer who continues writing in major Korean newspaper on issues of science and society. I am genuinely motivated not only to study the mystery of nature but also to change the status of environment where scientists are living. With the help of Sigma Xi community, I think I can achieve this goal. After I joined the University of Ottawa, I have worked very hard on our campus to keep our chapter viable. If elected Canadian/International Constituency Representative on Committee, I will use my experience to assist the Director as needed and I will work towards promoting the relevance of scientific endeavors both on all our campuses and in the community as a whole.
