Candidate's Statement:
Over the past two years, I've had the privilege to work with our Mid-Atlantic Regional Director and DC Chapter President, Ms. Christina Gouin-Paul. Christina is an outstanding leader and it has been an honor to work with her. It is through her encouragement that I am running for a second term as the Associate Director for the Mid-Atlantic Region. I've attended the 2013 Regional Meeting in Washington DC where I served as a judge for the student research competition and had an opportunity to meet Dr. Kelly O. Sullivan, past president of Sigma Xi. This year, I have taken on the project of restarting the University of Virginia Chapter of Sigma Xi. I recently attended the DC Chapter's Science Cafe which encouraged me to explore how the UVA Chapter can assist with Science Straight Up, a similar Cafe that was recently established in Charlottesville by the University's outreach program.
I'd like to thank the members of the Mid-Atlantic Region for providing me with the opportunity to serve as your Associate Director over the past two years. I have learned a great deal about the inner workings of our wonderful Organization and experienced the exceptional leadership of our current Mid-Atlantic Regional Director. I am ready to serve a second term as your Associate Director, if given the opportunity to do so.
