Barry C. Collin Named Sigma Xi Chief Operating Officer

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – Barry C. Collin has been named chief operating officer of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society. He comes to Sigma Xi from the Collin Group, Inc. where he was chief innovation officer.

For over 25 years and across diverse industries, Collin’s work has created billions of dollars in new opportunities for small businesses through Fortune 500 enterprises. He has disrupted and even created entirely new markets and changed the way many products and services are sold and used. An expert at “modding,” Collin leverages company’s products, services and capabilities in new ways in order to grow fast and at maximum ROI.

Built on over two decades of critical requirements, Collin has developed unique real-time methods that help organizations, departments, groups and teams of diverse scientific, technical and business backgrounds connect, innovate, and execute better and faster than ever thought imagined. This training has saved companies time and money, lead to new efficiencies and facilitated innovation. He recently trained a group of more than 1,700 scientists, engineers and students at NASA, which was televised to some 80 nations.

Collin was also Director of Markets and Buyers Analysis at The Markets Institute. Collin was responsible for researching, developing and distributing original key insight and recommendations on vital issues that affect how we sell, buy, advertise, research, interact, forecast and develop new products and services in business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) markets across all industries. He has developed new market growth and innovation techniques implemented at myriad companies, analyzed complex markets, and invented the Business-With-Business approach used by major B2B firms globally.

Collin recently discovered the Microbubble Phenomenon of Social Media buying behavior. His work is chronicled or cited in more than 65 current books and myriad papers in multiple languages.

Collin is also noted for having coined the term “CyberTerrorism,” and was a Senior Research Fellow for the Institute for Security and Intelligence (Stanford, CA). He was a consultant and speaker for the US Department of Defense, the State Department, the Treasury, and other federal, state and local agencies. His founding of the study of terrorists use of advanced technology and its impact on critical infrastructure is credited for having helped protect hundreds of millions of lives.
