Lou Reinisch is currently the dean of science and the director of the Medical Physics Program at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. He came to the University of Canterbury in 2002 after working for 12 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the U.S. Upon arriving at Canterbury, he created the Medical Physics Program for postgraduate students. It accepted the first students in July 2003. Reinisch continues to direct and teach in the Medical Physics Program, which is part of the Medical Physics Registrar Program organized by the Clinical Training Agency of the Ministry of Health, and is accredited by the Australasian College of Physicists and Engineers in Medicine. Graduates of the program have been accepted into registrar positions throughout New Zealand and in Adelaide, Australia. One recent graduate is currently a Fulbright Fellow working at Massachusetts General Hospital. Reinisch is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Physicists and Engineers in Medicine. He is a member of their Professional Standards Board. He is also a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. He has 96 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and many other proceedings and has also published book chapters. He has several patents, is a director on the Veritide Limited Board (a company formed from one of his inventions) and is a member of the University of Canterbury Council.
